Wash
Built for Brackeys Game Jam 2026.2 - Trust No One, Wash is an incremental game where you, the painter, find yourself with a guide and a pond full of pigments in an attempt to paint the town (literally). You'll be able to hire little blotches to help you, but be wary, they might turn on you and try to lift the dye from the painting.
Mostly, I was playing with shaders and wanted to try out this neat little watercolor drip effect in a game. I liked it, hopefully you think it's neat too.

How to play
----------------
WASD moves the camera around. If you just fullscreened, the web version at least requires you to click before it works. Also, it won't work fully zoomed out. You can also right click and move with the mouse, as long as it's on a free spot because...
Left Click and Right Click (or Shift + Left Click) interacts with everything. Left clicking the pond harvests pigments, hovering over those pigments gathers them. Left clicking a tile, sleeping blotch, or a building will invest pigments into it, gaining bonuses, hiring the blotch, or powering up one half of the building.
Right clicking (or Shift + Left Click) powers up the other half of that building. Right clicking a blotch explodes it, useful if it's gone rogue, not so useful if they're loyal little workers.
That's... basically it. Click, watch, read a little narrative, and have fun. There's four endings, if you're up for seeing them all. Most are just text and moving up a prestige mode, the true ending has a nice little scene for you.

Cute chill game liked the vibe, and it is funny to explode rogue blobs.
The only critique I have is just that it's hard to keep up with the text at the same time as managing the rest of the game, so I missed a lot of the dialog including what's on the board. I'd add a pause function to read text or make it so the dialog doesn't clear until you click it. Other than that though I love everything else about this game! You did a really good job and I'm inspired by your use of shaders!
Nice concept!
Hi. I am a semi-beginner dev learning to make game in godot. I really really love the way you have made the animations for main menu buttons and the color splashes that happen in the main menu and also in the game. Can you please give me a little explanation of how the color splashes are made? I would really like to learn them. I loved your game and hope you make more amazing games like this in the future. I Thank you for your time.
So, thebookofshaders.com and godotshaders.com are good places to start to learn this. This is a variation of the ripple effects you can find on godotshaders easily enough.
Basically, it takes a timestamp and x,y of mouse position on hover. Every frame, it draws a circle based on the drops age, using some math to start out fast and then slow down, as if it was spreading like a ripple would.
There's some noise to make it not a perfect circle, a darker rim, and the alpha fades out after a short period. Those give it that watercolor effect layered onto the ripple effects you can find from the links above.
Hope that helps you!
I was also looking to get better at shaders so thank you for these recommendations! Also really cool game!
OMG.. Thank you sooooo much. It's going to be awesome learning so many cool things. Though I feel like it will be a step learning curve. But I think the more I'll struggle, the better I'll learn. Thank you again.
If you don't mind, can I please add you on discord? I want to ask questions if I get stuck in somewhere. My discord username is 'On4ll', incase you don't want to share your username here. Thank you again. All the best in your gamedev journey too.
Super satisfying and I like the little story going on with the guide
The game is super relaxing and very fun to play! I found myself playing it for quite a while. I love the art style as well and it's got a very nice charm to it. Well done :)
good game, the pixel art is awesome
Love the game, though I don't really trust the ending.
very visually impressive, but the guide text at the start goes by so quickly i could not read any of it
At first its a little bit confusing, but when you go deeper into the game, the better it feels. The only thing i would do in this game its a tutorial, but the game feel, the art and the music are incredibles, good job mate :D
It's very cozy and well-thought-out. Music, art and gameplay is fun and pulls you in.
I think I got a tad bit annoyed at the tooltips, they often get into the way and often I can't manage to finish reading them.
I unironically got addicted to this game. Really satisfying gameplay and love the twist at the end.
Very cute adn addictive! :P
Find myself playing for more than I thought. It seems to be pretty good although I'm not sure what it is that makes it so.
It is pretty cumbersome to read all the text in the beginning. It's not very obvious what the point of the game is either. And as for the jam it barely fits the theme.
But overall there is a fun game here somewhere. Good job.
Great story and really addictive
this is the best!
This might be the best one
This game is incredible, great work
addictive game!
I played this way too long…
Weirdly addicting, well done on a great game!
Great game. Would be nice to have a panning feature like hold middle click and drag
really fun game! addicting gameplay loop, creative idea, and was genuinely surprised at how many endings there are
wait i just checked the description what do you mean there's 4 endings. i only found 3. whuh
Really creative idea! My current favorite of the jam :)
Could use a zoom feature
Awesome game, nicely done!
Thanks for the suggestion, added in a zoom feature!
Amazing! Extremely unique and creative idea for a game. Art style is cute and calming. Could see myself playing for hours, super addicting!
The game is soo Satisfying to play...The interface is so cute...although the guide can be implemented better I think
Addicting, I can't stop until I finished all the paintings. Really love the art.
i love it! at first i was confuse what to do. but once i got the hang of it, i can't stop. its fun, satisfying. i love it that it looks like the washed out watercolor effect. so cute too!
clever and quite cute!
Fun premise! Got some juice. Not being able to read the full text boxes for building requirements at the top and bottom right was frustrating.
Thanks for the feedback. I've got a fix in the pipeline that should address this soon.
Good game so far but it is very difficult to pop rogues on a trackpad.
Oh, I never thought of trackpads. I'll add this to a list I've got going and see what I can come up with as a fix. Maybe a checkbox for trackpads so the rogues don't run away from cursors like they do now.
Alright, I think I have a fix in for that. I've added a few QoL fixes and a slider/checkbox in Settings that *should* mean that works, including letting players choose to shift click and/or right click.
